The Call - After 30 years of corporate working and suburban living we were set: a lake house in Michigan, a desert home in Arizona, and a nest egg. We planned to spend 6 months in each location, enjoying the best of both worlds.  In December 2008, while relaxing in our Arizona home, we received the call, "What will you do with the rest of your lives?"

The Trials - We are not the only people God has ever called to walk out a vision. That knowledge did not make the trip any less painful. He has much to teach us if we listen.  God gives us a vision, then takes us into the valley of humiliation and sometimes to the woodshed to prepare us.

God was calling us to live His vision, not ours. Our vision was retirement, trophy lawn, and house beautiful. His call is to an inside-out, upside-down kind of living.  After a few months' search, we found the place where this strange new kind of living would take place.  A prolonged roof leak in the house had caused structural damage and the deck was literally falling off the house. The barn foundation had crumbled. The barn loft door had hung open for decades in a gaping yawn.  Mole hills punctuated the landscape.  But the 10 acres were gently
rolling with a nice pond and our children lived next door. God confirmed it in prayer - this was our new home.

Promises - God promises to never give us more than we can handle.  When doubt set in, there was nowhere to go but back to Him.  After all, this was His idea. Through the repeated turning to Him, He began to open new realities.

The Joy - The rewards of responding to God's invitation are indescribable.  Oh, the joy of His rest and His peace. And the rewards are not just spiritual.  Raspberry rhubarb jam, fresh milk and eggs, spontaneous visits from grandchildren, baby chicks, an orchard that produces organic fruit and more.  Our porch swing that hangs in the Big Oak Tree is a constant reminder that God calls us to His rest. As we rest in Him, rivers of living water will flow from us.

This is Our Story - our journey of the past four years.  Our marriage is stronger, our faith deeper, and our joy is so abundant it overflows to others.  Neighbors, work associates, family and friends are being influenced for Christ.

We invite you into our journey. It is our prayer that you will be encouraged to seek God with your whole heart, then respond in unwavering faith.
